Stellar Evolutionary Models: challenges from observations of stellar systems
We briefly review some constraints† for stellar models in various mass regimes and evolutionary stages as provided by observational data from spectroscopy to multi-wavelenghts photometry. The accuracy of present generation of stellar models can be significantly improved only through an extensive comparison between theory and observations.
متن کاملReference Frame Conflict in Assigning Direction to Space
Spatial prepositions are linguistic tools to exchange information about spatial location of objects. For instance “The book is over the table” indicates that the located object (LO) is somewhere “over” the reference object (RO). Assigning direction to space (selecting a reference frame) is a necessary precursor to understanding where the LO is located. Three experiments are reported which inves...
متن کاملModeling Visibility in 3D Space: a Qualitative Frame of Reference
This paper introduces and formalizes a frame of reference for projective relations in 3D space that can be used to model human visual perception. While in 2D space visibility information can be derived from the concept of collinearity (thus, as ternary relations), in 3D space it can be derived from coplanarity, which calls for quaternary relations. Yet, we can retain ternary relations by anchor...
متن کاملThe effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations
Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...
متن کاملStellar Abundance Observations
Groundand space-based observations of stellar heavy element abundances are providing a clearer picture of the chemical evolution of the Galaxy. A large number of (r)apid and (s)low neutron capture process elements, including the first Hubble Space Telescope observations of Pt, Os, Pb and Ge, have been identified in metal-poor, galactic halo stars. In the very low metallicity (i.e. [Fe/H] < –2.0...
